Frederick William Herschel (German Friedrich Wilhelm Herschel, 15 November 1738 - 25 August 1822) was an astronomer and composer. He discovered Uranus, infrared radiation, 4 moons (Mimas, Enceladus, Titania, and Oberon), made deep sky surveys providing most of the data for the New General Catalogue, and was the first president of the Royal Astronomical Society.
