The Kepler Space Telescope is a space telescope launched by NASA in 2009 to find and study exoplanets. It was named after Johannes Kepler.
Designations
Many stars are given a KIC (Kepler Input Catalog) number. Later, they may get a KOI (Kepler Object of Interest) number. Finally, once exoplanets are confirmed around the star, the star is given a Kepler- number.
