T Coronae Borealis, commonly known by its abbreviation T CrB, proper name the Blaze Star, is a recurrent-nova in the constellation corona-borealis.[1]
Structure
The binary-star is composed of a red-giant and a white dwarf.
Novae
T Coronae Borealis is a recurrent-nova which flares up every 80 or so years. When that happens, its apparent magnitude shoots up from 10.8 to 2,[3] putting it among the brightest stars in the night sky.
Previous outbursts were recorded in 1217, 1787 (+ 7 × 81.43 years), 1866 (+ 79 years), and 1946 (+ 80 years).[2] Using the interval of 80 years, the next event is expected to happen sometime around 2026. However, no outburst has been observed yet.
